- I started walking regularly three years ago to gain strength and muscle tone. I discovered that walking reversed the damage done to my body by many years of work in the studio at the drafting table and easel. Long-standing issues with my neck, shoulders and back were resolved, and I gained physical stamina to work standing up, which also helped. Walking outdoors in all seasons connects me with nature and feels empowering-- I am no longer subject to the seasonal depression that accompanies cabin fever. I get creative ideas on my walks and also solve artistic problems. It is meditative and invigorating.
